Animals in the caution zone February 29, 2012

On February 29, heavy snow was falling in mountainous region of Tohoku through the northern Kanto region.

It`s a rare the snow fall in the region of Hamadori, Fukushima prefecture but the snow was as you see on that day. “Fukushima International Media Village” is sheltering cow cattle in evacuation zone, Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant and the chairman of Iwaki city headquarter is giving forages and dried grass-fed to cow cattle every day.

We drove the place where beef cattle were waiting impatiently for their forages while the snow was falling on that day, too. There is nobody to meet on the way except police officers when you enter in to the evacuation zone after inspection. The town became out of the mainstream even though, there are seven people continues to live in fear of nuclear pollution since they could not evacuate for variety of reasons.

But, there are many animals loitering around while a year after from 3.11.

On that day, we found a few cows in front of some one` s house and they were hang around in the garden and looks missed a people or looking for something to eat.

I, also was accompanied with them to go same place and helped to give hay to cows on March 6.

We are not only feeding the cattle, there are 2 dogs which are white and black. The black dog get run over when found our car. The dog was slowly moved towards a certain distance when we come to close. Seems, the dog was quite scared.

Even, we gave the bread which bought it in front of the Check station but still the dog did not get it. However, we wanted to observe from nearby and called them (White and Black) with laud voice but did not come. Finally, dogs approached and wolfing down the bread when we left that place after put the bread.

Except the dogs, the buffalos also came through the smell of forages and grasses for cows. Even say the buffalos, actually they were Japanese black cattle (breed of cattle) which had been kept in this cow shed up until recently. According to the fellow countryman, the Holstein of milk cows and Japanese black cattle were mixed there. There were Japanese black cattle mixed with Holstein of milk cows.

We also gave the grasses which prepared to these cows. Same as dogs, cows didn`t come closely. For a while four cows came and start to eat the grasses because they couldn`t keep starving any more. Those 4 cows were scrawny and especially poor little calf was so skinny.

There are 40 cows sheltering in cow shed at evacuation zone. Everyday, we bring the forages to cows from the Iwaki city and it takes 1 hour by car. The cows come and move their head which is so amiable when the car approach to the cow shed. Also, the buffalo and dogs come running up to them. We want to giveback them to their shepherd earlier as possible.
